Bangladesh officially supports Qatar for UNESCO DG post

DHAKA, Dec 27, 2016 (BSS) - Bangladesh today conveyed its support to the Qatari candidature for the post of Director General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Advisor of the Diwan Amiri of the State of Qatar, is contesting for the post.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali officially conveyed Bangladesh's support to the Qatar candidature during a meeting with Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, who is now on a two-day visit to Bangladesh, foreign ministry sources said.

During the meeting, Al-Kawari highly appreciated the socio-economic development and women empowerment in Bangladesh.

He expressed his conviction that under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and under her 'Vision 2021', Bangladesh will prosper in all sectors.

Dr. Hamad particularly appreciated peaceful coexistence and tolerance of the people of Bangladesh of all faiths and beliefs, who are living in harmony. He said that he would cite this as an example to the world.

Earlier, Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari called on the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Prime Minister's Office here today.

During the talks, the Bangladesh Foreign Minister and Qatari Adviser discussed ways and means to further deepen cooperation in bilateral trade and investment, energy and power plants, LNG and green energy sectors.

Both sides stressed the need to enhance the bilateral high level contacts including business to business contacts between the two countries, sources added.
