DHAKA, March 27, 2017 (BSS) - The 47th Independence and National Day was celebrated in Bangladesh missions abroad in a befitting manner through holding various programmes.
The programmes included hoisting of the national flag, organizing discussions, recitation from the Holy Quran and holding special prayers seeking divine blessings for the peace of the departed souls of the 1971 martyrs and for the continued development, peace and progress of the country.
Messages from President, Prime Minister, foreign minister and state minister for foreign affairs were read out in observance of the day.
Bangladesh Permanent mission to the UN organized a day-long programme at Bangabandhu auditorium of the mission, according to a message received here today.
Mission's officers and employees and expatriate Bangladeshis attended the programmes to pay respect to the worthy sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives for the cause of their motherland and free the nation from all sorts of repression and subjugation of the then Pakistani rules in 1971.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at Bangabandhu auditorium of the mission premises. Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Masud bin Momen, consul general of Bangladesh Consulate in New York Shamim Ahsan and leaders of Bangladesh Awami League in the United States took part in the discussion.
Similar Programmes were observed at Bangladesh missions in London, Kathmandu (Nepal) and Deputy high Commission in Mumbai, India and Bangladesh Consulate General in Istanbul, Turkey marking the day.
In London, a discussion meeting was held at the high commission premises highlighting the significance of the Day. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam who is now in London, joined the discussion as the chief guest.
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi celebrated the 47th Independence and National Day in a befitting manner on Sunday.
Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi Syed Muazzem Ali launched the celebration by hoisting national flag at the mission's premises in the morning as a military band played the national anthem. Officers and officials of the mission, their family members and expatriate Bangladeshis were present.
