DHAKA- The Jatiya Sangsad yesterday passed the 'Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture Research Bill, 2017' aimed at ensuring a sustainable and production-oriented agricultural system by innovating environment friendly new varieties of crops through using nuclear techniques.
With the passage of the bill in an amended form, the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agricultural Ordinance-1984 was scrapped.
Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury moved the bill, which was later passed in voice votes. According to the bill, a 16-member advisory council headed by agriculture minister and an 11-member management board would be constituted to fulfill the objective of the bill.
The management board would be entrusted with the responsibility of conducting administrative works, looking after the financial matters and implementing day- to-day affairs of the institute.
