State Minister for Foreign Affairs ShahriarAlam, MP and the visiting Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence of Singapore discussed ways and means to further deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. Dr.Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence of Singapore met the State Minister for Foreign Affairsat the State Guest House Padma today. The Singapore Senior Minister of State arrived in Dhaka last night on a two-day visit.
The two Ministers discussed all aspects of Bangladesh-Singapore bilateral relations which included, inter alia, bilateral trade and investment, radicalization and countering violent extremism, employment of Bangladeshi workforce in Singapore and cooperation in the regional and international fora. Terming Singapore as one of the most important trade and investment partners of Bangladesh, the State Minister mentioned that the relationship between the two countries has evolved into a significant partnership in recent years. Highlighting the impressive track record of economic growth coupled with significant achievements in social indicators, he mentioned that Bangladesh is well on track to achieve the Vision 2021 and Vision 2041 to graduate Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041, under the wise leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Projecting Bangladesh as a lucrative destination for foreign investment and trade, he assured that the Government was working seriously to build necessary physical infrastructures and institutional support to ensure a very business-friendly environment for the investors all around the world. The State Minister appreciated Singapore's important investments in the power generation sector and invited businessmen from Singapore to come forward and explore business and investment opportunities in Bangladesh. The visiting Minister indicated Singapore's keen interest to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Bangladesh.
In his two-day visit, the Senior State Minister of Singapore is expected to meet Hon'ble Prime Minister (HPM).
He will leave Dhaka in the evening of 26 October 2016.
