Bangabandhu’s birthday celebrated in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, March 18 (2017) - The 98th Birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day was celebrated on Friday at Bangladesh mission here in a befitting manner.

Members of expatriate Bangladesh community, officials and staff of Bangladesh High Commission, along with their families joined the programme on the high commission premises, according to a message received here today.

The Chancery building and premises were decorated tastefully with colourful balloons, festoons and other glittering materials and were illuminated with colorful lights marking the occasion.

The day's programme began with placing flower wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan. This was followed by cutting of a birthday-cake.

A special Munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu.

Earlier, the High Commissioner read out messages of the President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam.

Later, a discussion session on the life and works of Bangabandhu was held. The High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan, while delivering his speech, paid homage to the memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and felicitated the children on the occasion of the National Children's Day.

Narrating some anecdotes of childhood of Bangabandhu, he highlighted Bangabandhu's extraordinary qualities of compassion, courage, self-esteem, determination, sagacity and integrity.

He called upon the children to be inspired by the ideals of Bangabandhu and be prepared to shoulder the responsibility of transforming Bangladesh into a developed country by the year 2041.

The discussion was followed by a cultural function and art and essay competition on the theme of Bangabandhu's contribution to achieving the independence of Bangladesh.

A documentary on the life of the Father of the Nation titled "Unfinished Epic" was screened on the occasion.
