Azad seeks active media participation to achieve SDGs

Principal Coordinator of SDG Programme Abul Kalam Azad today sought active participation from media to help achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and materialize the 10 special initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to make Bangladesh a middle income country by-2021.

"If the initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implemented successfully, the life standard of common people will be developed a lot," he told a view-exchange meeting with print media journalists on "SDGs and Prime Minister's Special Initiatives" at Press Information Department here.

Azad hoped the country will succeed to attain the SDGs by 2030 with the participation of all as like as the country successfully achieved the goals of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by implementing different programmes for the welfare of people.

"Education was one of the key goals of MDGs. As much the women can be engaged with the education programme, the progress rate and development of the country will increase so," he said.

While presiding over the meeting, Principal Information Officer AKM Shamim Chowdhury stressed on the implementation of SDGs to establish good governance to make Bangladesh as "Sonar Bangla" as dreamt of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said media can play an important role to motivate people in implementing SDGs

In the open-discussion, journalists from national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and different national newspapers including daily Samakal, Manabkantho, Asian Age, Sangbad, Bhorer Kagoj, Banik Barta assured of cooperating the government to attain the SDGs.
