Australia to support Bangladesh over women empowerment

DHAKA, Australia has assured continued assistance to Bangladesh for addressing social issues causing gender based violence as well as improving women's ability to develop a more inclusive economy.

The assurance was made while visiting Australian Ambassador for Women and Girls Dr. Sharman Stone called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam at foreign ministry here today.

The state minister briefed the ambassador about Bangladesh's success in establishing gender equality and promoting women empowerment.

Shahriar also described various measures taken by Bangladesh Government to mainstream women and girls in national plans.

Mentioning that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina achieved Global Women's Leadership Award in Australia last year, Ambassador Stone highly lauded the leadership quality of Bangladesh premier in advancing education for girls as well as financial and social inclusion of women in the society.
