Arun Jaitley given emotional farewell, cremated with state honour

NEW DELHI, India's Former Finance Minister and BJP Stalwart Arun Jaitley was given an emotional farewell as leaders across the political spectrum and many party workers attended his funeral held with full state honour here this afternoon.

Arun Jaitley's son Rohan lit the funeral prayers as a 21-gun salute went off on the banks of the river Yamuna in national capital Delhi.

The body of Aruun Jaitley was wrapped in the tricolor and then was brought to Nigambodh Ghat in a flower-decked gun carriage from the BJP headquarters where thousands of people, leaders and diplomats paid their last respect.

The 66-year-old BJP stalwart died at the AIIMS in the national capital on Saturday, where he had been admitted for two weeks with multiple organ failure.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, BJP veteran LK Advani, Party President and Home Minister Amit Shah, party's working president J P Nadda, and Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani attended the funeral, media reports said.

Besides, Congress leaders Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kapil Sibal, Telugu Desam Party's Chandrababu Naidu, Congress' Kapil Sibal and Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were also present at the cremation ground.

BJP workers queued up in large numbers outside the party headquarters since morning to pay their last respects to the leader.
