Arrest warrant against 35 BNP leaders

DHAKA- A Dhaka court today issued arrest warrant against 35 leaders and activists of BNP, including party chairperson's special assistant Shimul Biswas, in a case lodged under Explosive Substance Act.

"Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah issued the warrant accepting the formal charge submitted by police," a court official said.

The other accused included BNP chairperson's press secretary Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, joint secretary general Barkat Ullah Bulu, general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal Shirin Sultana, Mir Sharafat Ali Sopu and Azizul Bari Helal.

According to the case document, unidentified miscreants vandalized vehicles and set those on fire in capital's Paltan area during the BNP called blockade program in January 2015.

Police filed the case against the accused and subsequently submitted formal charge with the court.
