An army man was killed and two others were injured after armed activists of the Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA) opened fire on the army personnel in Bandarban on Sunday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release today.
The deceased was identified as Nazim Uddin, a master warrant, son of late Shamsher Ali, he hailed from Ghagatpara village of Rangpur sadar.
Two others injured are being treated at a hospital.
The KNA activists opened fire around 1pm on army personnel who were providing security to a free health campaign, supervised by Bangladesh Army, for mothers and children in remote hilly areas on the occasion of Independence Day and National Children's Day, according to the ISPR release.
He had been serving Bangladesh Army for the last 30 years with utmost honesty, dedication and professionalism, the release added.
Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed expressed his deepest shock and sorrow at the death of Nazim Uddin.
Extortion, drug smuggling, kidnapping and killings by the KNA terrorists have been hampering various developmental activities in the region.
The terrorist activities of KNA are undermining country's image in the world along with affecting the internal security and above all it is disrupting the prevailing law and order situation in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
