Arms recovery operation again starts in Rupganj

DHAKA, June 3, 2017 (BSS) - Police has started the arms recovery operation at Purbachal in Rupganj of Narayanganj this morning for the second consecutive day after recovering a haul of illegal arms and ammunitions on Friday.

"We have started the operation again at sector-5, Purbachal around 9am

today. Divers of fire service are now searching for more arms and ammunition in the canal. But, nothing has yet been found till 12.50pm today," additional police super Mostafizur Rahman told BSS today.

"Preparation is going on to pump out water from the cannel as we suspect there might be more arms and ammunition in the cannel," he said, adding that police will lodge a case in this connection after completion of the drive.

"Bomb disposal unit has been disposing of the explosives recovered from the canal," he also said.

"We have so far arrested only Sharif Khan in this connection. The illegal firearms and ammunitions have been recovered following the information extracted from Sharif," he further said.

Police started the special drive at Rupganj since Thursday midnight. In the drive, two rocket launchers, 61 Chinese sub-machine guns, 44 magazines, 42 handmade grenades, five pistols, timer and explosives were recovered from the lake.
