Amu seeks Jordanian investment to set up TSP fertilizer factory

DHAKA, Feb 8, 2017 (BSS) - Jordanian entrepreneurs welcomed a Bangladesh proposal for setting up a joint venture TSP fertilizer factory when industries minister Amir Hossain Amu assured them of procuring all fertilizer to be produced by that factory.

Amu who is now on a visit to Jordan placed the proposal during a meeting with Amman Chamber of Industry, said a release here today.

Amu also said Jordanian entrepreneurs can also invest in other lucrative sectors such as agro processing, steel manufacturing, power production and petrochemical industries in Bangladesh.

Later, commerce and industries minister of Jordan Engineer Yarub Qudah held a meeting with Amu and proposed to sell Phosphoric Acid and Rock Phosphate under a state-to-state agreement. He also expressed interest to sign agreement to gear up investment relations between the two countries.

Mentioning the high quality of Rock Phosphate of Jordan, Amu said there is huge demand of this high quality fertilizer in Bangladesh. Bangladesh imports 1.5 lakh tonnes of Rock Phosphate from Jordan every year, he said, adding that Bangladesh is eager to import this fertilized under state-to-state agreement.

Amu said over 1.5 lakh Bangladesh workers have been working in Jordan and requested the Jordanian minister to import more manpower from Bangladesh.
