Amu for involving women in mainstream of development

DHAKA, March 15, 2017 (BSS)- As women make up half of the country's total population, integrating the women in the mainstream of development activities will take the country forward to achieve Vision-2021 and Vision-2041, said Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is focusing on women empowerment and their participation in the mainstream of trade and commerce to increase participation of women in the country's development endeavours," he said.

The minister was addressing as the chief guest the successful women entrepreneurs award giving ceremony organised by Women Entrepreneur Association of Bangladesh (WEAB) marking the International Women's Day-2017 at a city hotel.

He said the present government has adopted women-friendly policies and activities prioritizing the financial and social empowerment for women aimed at building a developed and wealthy country by 2041.

He said the involvement of women in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) has already brought about a notable change in the socio-economic landscape of the country.

Recalling the contribution of women to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the minister said the grass root women, particularly small women entrepreneurs in the rural economy, are also playing a vital role to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Amu urged the development partners to play roles for development of women in Bangladesh as it is not possible for the government alone to empower the women on social and economic planes.
