RANGPUR, Feb 13, 2017 (BSS) - Dr Wazed Smriti Sangshad (DWSS) has completed all preparations to celebrate the 75th birth anniversary of Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina's husband and nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah here on February 15 and 16 next.
Talking to BSS today, General Secretary of DWSS and senior journalist Saiful Islam Jahangir said the programmes were finalised in celebration of the birth anniversary of Dr Wazed in a recent meeting of the organisation.
With Senior Vice-president of DWSS, Dr Wazed's boyhood friend and noted cultural personality Monwar Hossain in the chair, General Secretary of DWSS and senior journalist Saiful Islam Jahangir moderated the meeting.
The programmes, including drawing and hand writing competitions, poem recitation and patriotic song competitions for the children in three groups will be held at Town Hall premises on February 15 next in the afternoon.
"The students of all educational institutions and sociocultural organisations from allover the district can participate in the competitions," Jahangir said.
On February 16, leaders of the DWSS will place wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed Miah, arrange Ziarat and offer Fateha in his birthplace village of Laldighee Fotehpur under Pirganj upazila in the district at 9 am.
Milad and doa mahfils will be arranged and special munajat be offered at different mosque after Johr prayers seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Dr Wazed and well-being of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Sayma Wazed Putul and their other family members.
A discussion meeting on the life and deeds of Dr Wazed will be arranged at Town Hall auditorium at 6 pm on February 16 and prizes, crests and certificates will be distributed among winners of different competitions.
Monwar Hossain will present the keynote essay in the discussion on the life, deed, personality, excellent character, dozens of memories, unparallel talent and human qualities of the nuclear scientist.
Vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi will address the discussion as the chief guest with President of DWSS Professor Dr Hamidul Haque Khondker in the chair.
High officials, politicians, public representatives, academicians, educationists, researchers, professionals, intellectuals, civil society members and elite will take part in the discussion.
"Like in the previous years, all expenses for organising the two-day programmes would be met this time from personal contribution of members of the organisation," said Saiful Islam Jahangir.
Besides, Dr Wazed Foundation, Begum Rokeya University, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and family of Dr Wazed have also chalked out day-long programmes to celebrate the birth anniversary of the nuclear scientist befittingly.
