A total of 26 nomination forms have been distributed by ruling Awami League (AL) among the aspirants for contesting in the forthcoming elections to five city corporations, five municipalities and three upazila parishad.
"On the first day of AL nomination form distribution programme, 26 nomination papers were distributed for the city corporations, municipalities and upazila parishad", said AL deputy office secretary Sayem Khan.
Awami League started distribution of application forms this morning which will continue till April 12 at AL president Sheikh Hasina's political office in the city's Dhanmondi area.
On the first day, seven candidates collected nomination papers for Gazipur City Corporation polls, one for Khulna City Corporations, four for Barishal City Corporations and five for Sylhet City Corporations polls while no nomination paper was sold for Rajshahi City Corporations.
Four nominations forms -- one for each municipality -- were also distributed for four municipalities (Pourasava) - Cox's Bazar Sadar, Araihazar of Narayanganj, Gopaldi and Talora of Bogura while no one collected form for Basail municipally of Tangail so far.
Besides, one nomination form for the chairman post of Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh district, two for Jagannathpur upazila and two for Sandwip upazila were also distributed on the first day.
As per the Election Commission's (EC) schedule, Gazipur City Corporation polls will be held on May 25, Khulna and Barishal City Corporations on June 12 and Rajshahi and Sylhet City Corporations polls will be held on June 21.
Along with five city corporations, distribution of party nomination forms also began today for the chairman post of Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh district, Jagannathpur upazila, Sandwip upazila and mayoral posts in five municipalities (Pourasava) - Coz's Bazar Sadar, Araihazar of Narayanganj, Gopaldi, Talora of Bogura and Basail of Tangail.
The nomination seekers have been asked to submit nomination papers between 11am and 4 pm every day from today to April 12 maintaining proper health rules.
Nomination seekers have been requested to carry a photocopy of national identity card for collecting application forms.
