DHAKA, March 7, 2017 (BSS)- Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar witnessed ongoing BAF Annual Winter Exercise "WINTEX-2017" at BAF Base Bangabandhu, Kurmitola today.
Senior BAF officials also present during the occasion, said an ISPR release here.
Later, he went to BAF Zahurul Haque, Chittagong and also Barisal to see the exercise activities.
The five-day long "WINTEX-2017'' will conclude tomorrow which commenced on March 4 all over Bangladesh including all BAF bases and stations.
The main objective of the exercise is to assess and evaluate the operational capability of Bangladesh Air Force to safeguard her own air space.
The exercise also will help to identify the limitation and draw appropriate lessons for improvement in future.
Mentionable that participation of all manpower and material of BAF in the exercise will be more effective in strengthening air defence capability of Bangladesh, it said.
The exercise was completed through three steps- Logistic exercise (LOGEX), Communication exercise (COMEX) and Live exercise (LIVEX).
As a part of the exercise, the pilots of BAF fighter aircraft, transport aircraft and helicopters practised different air combat maneuvers and tactics including attack and interception by the fighter aircraft, surveillance from the air to the enemy attacking area, protecting Air Bases, providing logistic support, troops rotation, transporting weapons, special operation and search and rescue mission, the release said.
All types of BAF fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters, radar squadrons, missile unit including all BAF personnel took part in the exercise.
To make the exercise more effective and realistic and to co-ordinate with other forces Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Civil Defence and BNCC (Air Wing) participated in the exercise in limited scale, the release said.
