Bangladesh national football team returned home from Kuala Lumpur Thursday after completing a frustrating Malaysia tour, participating in the four-team Group E matches of the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifiers.

The No. 188-ranked Bangladesh bowed out of the tournament, losing all three matches.

The men in red and green suffered a 1-4 defeat against higher-ranked Malaysia in the last group match Tuesday.

This was the seventh win for the No. 154-ranked Malaysia in ten matches against Bangladesh since 1975.

In the first two group matches, Bangladesh conceded a 0-2 defeat against the No. 99-ranked Bahrain and 1-2 against the No. 134-ranked Turkmenistan.

Bahrain qualified for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 as the Group E champions while hosts Malaysia also booked a place in the AFC Asian Cup final round as one of the top five runners-up teams of the qualifying round.

On June 1, beset by injuries, Bangladesh played out a goalless draw against the No. 159-ranked Indonesia in a FIFA international friendly match in Bandung of West Java, Indonesia.
