Dhaka: The government of Bangladesh has announced a plan to sell milk, eggs, beef, and dressed broiler meat at subsidized prices throughout the month of Ramadan to ensure the public can access essential animal-based proteins.

According to United News of Bangladesh, this initiative was confirmed during a meeting held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, chaired by Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter. The meeting focused on ensuring an uninterrupted supply and stable pricing of meat, eggs, and milk during the holy month. It was concluded that from the day before Ramadan until its 25th day, these products will be available at affordable prices through mobile sales centers.

The subsidized prices are set at Tk 245 per kilogram for dressed broiler meat, Tk 80 per liter for pasteurized milk, Tk 8 per egg, and Tk 650 per kilogram for beef. The program aims to be operational in 25 strategic locations across Dhaka and city corporation areas, including the Secretariat area, Khamarbari, Mirpur, Azimpur, and several other key sites.

Additionally, departmental directors and district livestock officers will collaborate with district administrations to implement similar programs outside Dhaka, considering local market conditions. Initially, the program will target 25 key locations in Dhaka, and will expand by establishing permanent sales spots in collaboration with local entrepreneurs and stakeholders.
