Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that comprehensive security measures have been put in place to ensure peaceful and festive celebrations of Christmas Day and the 31st night.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser emphasized the importance of the Christmas Day celebrations, describing it as the largest religious festival for the Christian community. He assured that all necessary security arrangements have been made to allow for a peaceful observance of the holiday with due religious fervor. These remarks were made during a press briefing following the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order, which also discussed security measures for the upcoming Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) polls.
Jahangir detailed the specific measures being implemented, stating that appropriate security arrangements have been established at every church. He also highlighted the prohibition on exploding crackers during both Christmas Day and the 31st night, noting that no events would be permitted to obstruct roads.
He further mentioned that stringent security measures have been extended to affluent areas such as Gulshan and Banani to prevent any untoward incidents. The law enforcement agencies have increased their patrols along key roads throughout the capital to ensure foolproof security. Additionally, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been instructed to enhance traffic management to facilitate better movement during the festive period.
