Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain today said the party has sought a roadmap for the national elections immediately in a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus: Earlier, a four-member BNP delegation led by Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf joined the meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna here. Other members were Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salauddin Ahmed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mosharraf mentioned that the BNP discussed three main issues during the meeting: reforms, trials, and elections. He stated that reforms are ongoing and emphasized the expectation that the current government would propose reforms based on consensus. Mosharraf assured that if the people elect BNP to power, the party would continue these reforms and strive to implement them.
Addressing the cases lodged against BNP leaders during the Awami League regime, Mosharraf highlighted that BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and numerous leaders and activists experienced inhumane treatment during that period. He called for the key figures of the Awami League government responsible for such actions to be brought to justice, stressing the need for an independent judiciary to conduct these trials.
In response to a question about the election roadmap, BNP delegation member Salauddin Ahmed noted the absence of specific discussions or commitments from the Chief Adviser. He mentioned that their demands were submitted in writing and anticipated that any updates would be communicated through the press. Khandaker Mosharraf reiterated that the BNP has never requested the resignation of the Chief Adviser and has consistently supported the government since its inception.
