The 9th Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) concluded here yesterday with a call for working together with the spirit of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals relating to migration.
"We believe that governments - civil society - business will act in the true spirit of partnership to implement the Sustainable Development Goals relating to migration," said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali in his concluding remarks.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the three-day GFMD summit in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital on Saturday.
Members of 130 countries, more than 200 members of the international civil societies and representatives from 30 organizations joined the summit under the overarching theme "Migration that works for Sustainable Development for all: Towards a Transformative Migration Agenda".
In the concluding day of the summit, Bangladesh made symbolic handover of the chair of the next GFMD to Germany and Morocco. The two countries will take over the co-chairmanship of the global forum on January 1 next.
The foreign minister in his remarks also appreciated all the participants in making the ninth GFMD an engaging and productive endeavour.
"It is your success and achievement in making the migration voice of the GFMD much elevated and stronger- in particular, in the emerging debate on the Global Compact,' he said.
