A total of 97,000 poor and distressed families will get 970 tonnes of rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivity.
Officials of the district Relief and Rehabilitation said the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the rice for distribution to the poor and distressed families in all seven upazilas and five Pourashavas in the district.
“The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees are preparing to distribute the rice to listed VGF card holder families,” said District Relief and Rehabilitation officer SM Delwar Hossain.
Each of the selected beneficiary families will get 10 kg VGF rice in 68 unions under seven upazilas and five Pourashavas in the district.
The distribution process will be completed by June 25, said District Relief and Rehabilitation officer SM Delwar Hossain.
Under the programme, 76,000 VGF card holder families in seven upazila and 21,000 VGF card holder families in five Pourashavas in the district will get 10 kg of VGF rice each, sources said.
