9,400 school children to get life-building knowledge, support

RAJSHAHI, June 5, 2017 (BSS)- Some 9,400 school children both boys and girls are going to receive life-building related knowledge and support that will help flourishing their physical and mental development.

The children including 5,400 girls age group from six to 14 will get the privileges through 17 socialization centres under a three-year project titled "IKEA Good Cause Campaign" here.

The project is being implemented in two wards of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and two pourasavas and three unions under Godagari Upazila in the district.

Association for Community Development (ACD) is implementing the project in association with Save the Children. The project intends to prevent unsafe migration and advance the rights of children on the move to protection, education and play.

These were revealed in a project launching meeting hosted by ACD at its conference hall in the city yesterday. 'I Play, I Learn and I'm Safe' was the main theme of the discussion.

The meeting participated by all stakes discussed elaborately on how to work together to support vulnerable children for reducing unsafe migration.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Salahuddin and Deputy Director of Department of Social Services Rubina Yeasmin addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with ACD Executive Director Salima Sarwar in the chair.

Assistant Director of Non-formal Education Bureau Anwar Kamal, District Children Affairs Officer Uma Rani Das, City Social Service Officer Abdullah Al Firoj and RCC Councilors Nazma Begum and Ruhul Amin also spoke.

Project Coordinator Mustafizur Rahman presented a concept paper detailing aims, activities and implementation strategy of the project.

He told the meeting that 4,500 parents, 150 public representatives and 140 teachers will also be imparted need-based training so that they can create and ensure congenial and convenient atmosphere for the children.

The scheme intends to transform the children into worthy citizens through multidimensional approaches.
