A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion
(RAB)-13 today fined eight polythene traders Taka 1.40 lakh and seized five
tonnes of polythene at Nababganj Bazar in the city.
Executive Magistrate Mahmud Hasan Mridha of the district administration
led the mobile court conducted with the assistance of the District Department
of Environment in the afternoon.
The mobile court fined the polythene traders under section 6 (1) of the
Bangladesh Environment Protection Act, 1995 for violating the Act by making
stock and preserving a huge quantities of polythene.
Later, the seized polythene was handed over to the Department of
Environment authorities for destroying those as per law.
Talking to local reporters during the drives, Executive Magistrate Mahmud
Hasan Mridha said that similar raids would continue to stop production,
stocking and marketing of polythene in the district.
