SYLHET- Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam today said about 50 lakh families are getting rice across the country at the rate of Taka 10 per kg and about 2.5 crore people are being benefited from it.
"The number of poor people in the country is decreasing day by day and the poverty rate of the country has come down under 10 percent" the minister said at a workshop on 'Public awareness of implementation of Food Safety Act-2013' at the Zila parishad auditorium .
The minister also said OMS rice selling is continuing in flood affected haor areas. The government is trying to give more opportunities to the haor areas people.
Divisional commissioner Dr Nazmanara Khanum presided over the function. It was addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Food Safety Authority chairman M Mahafuj Haque, Zila parishad chairman M Lutfur Rahman and deputy commissioner Rahat Anwar.
