DHAKA- The government would distribute adequate amount of food along with money among the flash flood affected people in the Haor areas through the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF), Open Market Sale (OMS) and general relief programmes.

Bikram, today said after emerging from an inter-ministerial meeting held at his ministry's conference room.
Maya, who chaired the meeting, said the government has decided to
distribute 30 kilograms of rice and cash Taka 500 to each of the 3.30 lakh flood affected families every month.
He said around 30,000-35,000 tonnes of rice would be distributed among the flood affected families while the total budget of the programme is Taka 50 crore.
During the 100-day programme, the government would provide rice at
Taka 15 per kg through OMS for 1.71 poor families of the area. Out of the general allocation, the government would provide food facility to 5.1 lkah families, he said.
We have already allocated 3,324 tonnes of rice and Taka 1,93,97,000 for the six districts, already hit by the unexpected flash flood Maya added.
The minister hoped that the flood situation would improve soon and, in the meantime, the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken urgent steps for providing various relief materials and help for the flood affected people in the areas.
He said his ministry has also formed a 18-member committee led by the additional secretary to observe flood situation and submit a report after 15 days.
According to the meeting sources, rainfall increased three-four times in this part of the year compared to last year, leading an unexpected flood. The ministry has also decided to send a team to the flood affected areas.
The minister urged all political parties to stand beside the flood affected people of the six districts.
Secretaries of water resources Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan, agricultural
Moiuddin Abdullah, disaster management and relief Md Shah Kamal, food
Md Kaikobad Hossain and secretary-in-charge of fisheries and livestock
Md Maksudul Hasan Khan, additional secretaries of finance Jalal Ahmed,
agriculture Mosharraf Hossain and other concerned officials were present at the meeting and raised their point to meet the fold situation.
