Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five alleged members of Harkat-ul-Jihad Bangladesh (Huji) in a raid at a militant den at Mukim Talukder Para of Colonel Hat area under Akbarshah thana in the city and seized arms and explosives from their possessions.
The arrested were identified as Tajul Islam, Nazim Uddin, Nur-e-Alam, Hafez Mohammad Abu Zafar Gifari and Iftisham Ahmed, all are the closed accomplices of Hujj top leader Mufti Mainul Islam, Assistant Director of RAB-7 Chandan Nath told BSS.
The elite forces recovered two pistols, nine magazines, ten improvised explosives, over 100 rounds of ammunitions, 10 Jehadi books from their possessions.
Sensing the presence of elite forces the militants started to set fire to destroy their mobiles, laptops and electronic devices, he added.
RAB sources said a team of the elite force earlier arrested two suspected Huji members Taijul and Nazim from AK Khan Intersection around 5 am on Thursday.
Based on the information of the detainees Tajul and Nazim RAB men cordoned a two-storey building off around 6 am at Mukim Talukdar Para and arrested three other Huji men from the house.
After four hours of drive, three "Huji militants" were detained from there. The explosives and arms-ammunition were seized from the flat, RAB said.
A bomb disposal team entered the house to check whether there are any explosives stored inside the room, RAB sources said.
