DHAKA, Feb 13, 2017 (BSS) - Members of customs intelligence this noon seized 35 gold bars weighing 3.5 kg at Shah Jalal International Airport here and detained one in connection with the smuggling.
The arrestee Md Habibur Rahman, 27, of Gazipur studies in Malaysia and confessed his involvement in the gold smuggling in the primary interrogation.
"Tipped off, members of preventive team detained Rahman as he was trying to pass through the Green Channel area in the airport hastily. He came from Singapore via Bangkok to evade our surveillance. After searching his body and luggage, we found the gold bars worth around Taka 1.75 crore," joint commissioner SM Sohel Rahman of customs told BSS.
Two cases were filed in this regard and the arrestee was handed over to Airport Police Station.
