NEW YORK, Feb 14, 2017 (BSS) - A three-member parliamentary delegation from Bangladesh took part in the two-day IPU Parliamentary Hearing yesterday at the UN headquarters here.
The hearing was held on "A World of Blue: Preserving the Oceans, Safeguarding the Planet, Ensuring Human Well-being in the Context of the 2030 Agenda", said a press release of the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance Ministry Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque is leading the three-member delegation. The other two members are: Shaimum Sarwar Kamal and Asheq Ullah Rafiq.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the UN jointly orgnaised the annual parliamentary hearing which is devoted to oceans, seas and marine resources and its conservation and sustainable use, as well as the vast ramifications for economic social and environmental policies both national and globally.
A total of 179 Members of Parliaments (MPs) from 55 countries, 19 NGOs, 10 International Organizations attended the inaugural session of the hearing.
IPU president Saber Hossain Chowdhury, president of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson and under secretary general of the United Nations Wu Hongbo addressed the inaugural session, the release added.
