Two journalists were injured after a stage set up for journalists to collect news of BNP’s Barishal rally broke.

One of the injured was identified as Sujoy Das, a camera person of Somoy Television.

Sujoy Das said, “BNP activists were getting on the stage made for us and jumping. We tried to stop them but failed”.

Suddenly the stage broke down and fell on him, he added.

Another journalist was injured and a TV camera was also damaged.

Meanwhile, the stage is ready to welcome the leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Khandaker Abul Hossain Limon, joint convener of the committee to prepare the stage for the Barishal BNP divisional meeting, said that a 50 feet long and 25 feet wide stage has been prepared for the leaders. The hanging of banners is also finished.

Besides, 120 loudspeakers have also been placed around the venue, he added.

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have already arrived in Barishal to join the party’s divisional rally on Saturday (5 November).

Defying a two-day long transport ban, thousands of party leaders and activists were seen in Barishal city’s Bangabandhu Park on Friday.

This will be the fifth one by the BNP at the divisional level as the first one was held in Chattogram, the second one in Mymensingh, the third one in Khulna and the fourth one in Rangpur.

Similar rallies have been planned in other divisional headquarters to drum up support in the run-up to the next election expected to be held late next year or in early 2024.
