2 held with counterfeit medicines in Dhaka, Chuadanga

Detectives have seized a huge quantity of fake medicines and arrested two people in this connection from Dhaka and Chuadanga .

The arrestees were Mohammad Ali Akkas Sheikh and Gias Uddin Ahmed.

The detectives seized 10,34,270 fake Pentonix 20 tablets, 16000 fake Monas 10 tablets, and 34 kg of Pentonix 20 tablet printed foil paper worth around Tk one crore from their possessions.

Based on secret information, Kotwali Zonal Team of Detective Branch, Lalbagh Division, conducted drives in Chawkbazar and Fakirapool areas in the city, and Darshana in Chuadanga and arrested them along with the counterfeit medicines on Wednesday.

Briefing Reporters at DMP media centre on Thursday, Additional Commissioner (DB) of the DMP AKM Hafiz Akhter said on the basis of secret information, the Kotwali Zonal Team of DB (Lalbagh Division) seized 2,11,680 Pentonix 20 tablets and 18000 Monas 10 tablets from the AJR Transport Agency (Courier Service) located in Chakbazar Modina Chan Sardar Cold Storage on Wednesday.

When seller Md. Ali Akkas Sheikh was asked to show the documents about the medicines he could not show any valid documents.

During interrogation, he said that the main owner of the counterfeit medicines was Gias Uddin Ahmed, who has a factory for making the counterfeit medicines in Darshana of Chuadanga district.

Later, the detectives conducted a drive at Fakirapool along with Ali Akkas and arrested Gias Uddin Ahmed, the Additional Commissioner (DB) said.

During preliminary interrogation, Gias Uddin Ahmed confessed that he used to make fake Pentonix 20, Monas 10 tablets and other medicines on the ground floor of a building in Darshana of Chuadanga district in the name of making Ayurvedic medicines.

These counterfeit medicines were sent to remote areas of Bangladesh through courier service through main dealer Md. Ali Akkas Sheikh and other members of the syndicate.
