DHAKA, Jan 24, 2017 (BSS) - A major water conference will kick off tomorrow at the beach town Kuakata where national and foreign delegates from South Asia and other parts of the world are expected to join and contribute to the emerging issues of water democracy.
The two-day conference on water democracy, an annual convention on water commons, is expected to facilitate brainstorming on water governance in South Asia, water and ecosystem, water and livelihood, as well as women and water, event hosts said today.
ActionAid Bangladesh, one of key hosts, said leading experts in the field including Professor Ainun Nishat, Professor Imtiaz Ahmed and M Inamul Haque would present keynote speeches on their respective areas.
It said for many years, water has been one of the most commonly contested bilateral and multilateral issues between countries of South Asia.
Therefore, free flow of water across the region is a critical concern for the environment and a pertinent factor to climate change.
