2 alleged criminals killed in shootout at Rampura

Two suspected criminals were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in city's Rampura area in the wee hours of today.

"The shootout ensued as the criminals fired gunshots at RAB personnel forcing them to fire back in which two criminals were caught in line of fire at Balur Math near Bank Colony of Rampura area around 2.15am," Major Fahim Adnan Siddique of RAB-3 told BSS.

The injured were rushed to emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the attending doctors pronounced them dead.

Identities of the criminals could not be known immediately.

RAB personnel recovered two foreign made 7.65 pistols, five rounds of bullet, two magazines and a mobile phone set from the spot, the RAB official also said.

Members of RAB-3 conducted the drive upon secret information that a gang of criminals gathered in Rampura area for committing crimes, he said, adding that they took the information seriously as robbery and snatching have been increased in recent days in the area.

Filing of a case to this end is underway.
