15 days national mourning day programmes begin at Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Chattogram district administration at a preparatory meeting has chalked out a 15day programmes to observe the National Mourning Day and 44th martyrdom anniversary of architect of Independence and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Ilias Hossain presided over the meeting held at his conference room with participation drawing officials from Police and RAB, freedom fighters, heads of government departments and educational institutions, politicians and civil society members.

The 15day long programme began today through qurankhwani, milad mahfil, discussion meetings, poetry recitation, essay and quiz competitions on the life and activities of Bangabandhu, screening of films, playing of the historic March 7 speech, offering special munajat and bringing out a mourning procession, blood donation and distribution of foods among the destitute in all over the district.

Besides, on August 15 the day's programmes will begin through the hoisting of the national flag at halfmast atop all government, semigovernment, autonomous, private buildings and educational institutions and placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Discussions on the life and works of Bangabandhu will be arranged by the Muktijuddah Sangsad Command Council in the city and at all schools, colleges and madrasas in all upazilas. Milad mahfil, special munajat and prayers will also be offered during the 15day long programme.

The special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worships seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of Bangabandhu.

A number of subcommittees were formed to make the National Mourning Day programme a success.

Bangladesh Awami League (AL), Chattogram city, north and south district units and their front organizations, scores of sociocultural, literary organizations, trade unions, educational institution and professional bodies will organize elaborate programmers to mark the day, Iftakher Saimul Chowdhury, joint secretary of city AL told BSS.

Leaders and workers of AL and its front organizations and professional bodies will wear black badges, hoist black flags atop all units of party, play the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu in 41 wards under the city corporation and observe oneminute silence throughout the day.

Chattogram Television and Beter Kendra will air special programmes and local newspapers will publish special supplements on Bangabandhu on the day.
