DHAKA, March 06, 2017 (BSS) -The 14-party alliance today demanded of giving recognition to the 25th March as "Genocide Day" at the current session of Jatiya Sangsad.
"We demand of giving recognition to March 25th as Genocide Day," 14-party alliance spokesperson Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim told a press conference emerging from a meeting at the AL president's political office at Dhanmondi in the city.
Chaired by Workers Party President and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, the meeting was joined by Jatiya Party (JP) secretary general Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, Communist Kendro convener Dr Wazedul Islam Khan, Gono Azadi League leader SK Sikder, Tarikat Federation leader MA Awal and Gonotantri Party leader Dr Shahadat Hossain, among others.
The AL presidium member also expressed his hope that the proposal will be placed in the parliament session on March 11.
About the next national election, the minister said they have no scope to go beyond constitution over the issues of conducting election and election-period government.
"As per the constitution, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead the election period government," he said.
In reply to the remarks of BNP leaders that if BNP would not take part in the election, the registration will be canceled, Nasim also said it is political party's own matter so they will participate in the polls or not.
"BNP is making remarks in 'different styles' to impede the election," he added.
