Fourteen more people were reported coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the daily infection rates continues marking a rising trend again during the past four days.
Health officials said the 14 new cases were reported after diagnosing 212 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 6.60 percent today.
Earlier, the daily infection rate remained below the five percent mark almost during the last one month and below the 10 percent mark during the last more than two and a half months in the division.
Among the 14 new patients diagnosed today, 11 were reported positive after diagnosing 118 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.
“The 11 new patients include seven from Rangpur, two from Gaibandha and one each from Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu.
On the other hand, three new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.
“All of the three new COVID-19 patients are hailing from Dinajpur district,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process tonight.
Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,888 as 14 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.
The district-wise break up of the total 15,888 patients stands at 4,064 in Rangpur, 795 in Panchagarh, 1,340 in Nilphamari, 967 in Lalmonirhat, 1,022 in Kurigram, 1,513 in Thakurgaon, 4,720 in Dinajpur and 1,467 in Gaibandha districts.
