1 killed in city road crash

One person was killed and another one got injured when a passenger bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the city’s Kalabagan area on Monday.

The victim was identified as Ujir Ahmed, 55, a fast food trader. Son of Mohammad Ali, he hailed from village Aush Para under Laksam police station in Cumilla district. He was residing with his family in Kalabagan Staff Quarter, Building No-8.

The incident took place when Ujir Ahmed was about to get into a CNG-run three wheeler in front of the Kalabagan Staff Quarter early in the morning. Suddenly a passenger bus of ‘Savar Paribahan’ hit the auto-rickshaw.

Seriously injured Ujir was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor pronounced him dead at around 6:30 am.

The driver of the three wheeler also received injuries and he was taken to a local hospital. However, his identity was not known immediately.

Abdul Majid, one of sons of the victim Ujir, said his father was going to a madrasa taking his grandson Tanjin early in the morning. The incident took place when he was about to get into a waiting CNG-run auto-rickshaw, he said.

Being informed, “I rushed my father to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead,” he said.

The CNG driver, who was also injured in the incident due to being hit by a bus of Savar Paribahan, was taken to local hospital, he added.
