A 60-year-old man was killed and five others injured as a bus smashed into a highway divider at the Siddhirganj area in Narayanganj Thursday, police said.

The identity of the deceased could not immediately be confirmed.

The injured were identified as Gazaria Government College assistant professors Hasanuzzaman, 50, Nazrul Islam, 49; Anil 55, and Hafeza Begum, 65. They were all passengers of the bus and are now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The accident occurred around 5pm as a Cumilla-bound bus of Dhaka-Homna Super Service lost control near the Shimrail area and crashed into the divider, leaving six passengers injured.

The 60-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after being taken to hospital, Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway Police Station, said.

“The driver and his assistant managed to flee the accident scene but the bus has been seized. Legal action will be taken against the duo,” Nabir Hossain said.
