Xiaomi’s sub-brand POCO produces standard phones since its beginnings. And its first product, the POCO F1, has been a demonstration of the company’s intention and capability. That is why, despite releasing a series of mediocre, mid-range phones, POCO has always been able to maintain its performance-driven fanbase. POCO’s latest innovation, POCO F3 GT has got released on 26th July in India. The phone is claimed to be a customized gaming device. This article will venture through different features of this phone and find out whether the claim is true or not.

Key Features of Xiaomi POCO F3 GT

Design

The POCO F3 GT is the most visually appealing POCO phone so far. The rear side of the phone, for example, has modern ‘gamer-y’ stickers and an elegant matte finish. It has eye-catching updates on the phone’s traditional appearance. It also imposes a luxurious tone on the phone.

Moreover, F3 GT has a glass-sandwich body build which is also the first time for a phone from POCO. It maintains a 161.9 × 76.9 × 8.3 mm and weighs 205g. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Users can have the phone in Predator Black, or Gunmetal Silver color.

POCO has also included an RGB LED within the camera module as RGB has become a must-have feature for a gaming phone. Users will be able to program the LED to warn during playing games or getting alerts from a certain app.

There are more than the maglev triggers to the phone’s design. Like it has a quick response fingerprint sensor, as well as great face, unlock technology. Aside from that, the phone comes with a microphone jack, a USB Type-C port, and dual-stereo speakers. The phone lacks a headphone port; however, the manufacturer has included a Type-C to 3.5mm adapter in its retail package.

Display

Mid-range phones with high-refresh-rate AMOLED displays are flooding the market, and the new POCO F3 GT is no exception. The smartphone has a 6.67-inch, FHD+ (AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate. The resolution features 1080 by 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio with ~395 PPI density.

With a brightness level up to 1,300 nits and 500 nits for average brightness level, the display is outstandingly bright. That’s why using it in the sunlight won’t be any hassle.

Furthermore, the display has WideVine L1 approval and is supportive of HDR 10+ material. Streaming HDR videos from OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime won’t degrade the video quality. The display seems flawless in providing great viewing angles. A small notch and fast responsiveness for the high refresh rate give a premium feel. Gamers can get up to 480Hz refresh rate which will definitely boost up their game playing experience.

Primary Lenses

The POCO F3 GT features a 64MP (f/1.7, 26mm wide, 1/2.0-inch, 0.7µm,) primary sensor, an 8MP (f/2.2, 120-degree field of view) ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP (f/2.4) macro lens.

The 64MP sensor is just like the one given with the Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition. It takes better pictures with precise contrast. Though many can say that the cameras are the only facets where POCO F3 GT has fallen short to meet users’ expectations. But still, these cameras are powerful lenses and deliver quality images.

The primary sensor does an excellent job in broad daylight producing great images with many details, great dynamic range, and precise colors. Even in low light conditions, these cameras can take astonishing shots with a minimum level of noise and preserving highlights. However, the other two lenses can’t go along with the primary lens in low light. They are great in daylight though. Users can record videos at 30fps in up to 4K resolution.

Front Facing Camera

The POCO F3 GT has used a 16MP selfie camera with HDR. It can seem like a cliché as the smartphone market has been using similar cameras in the phone of a specific budget range. It has been really difficult to stand apart from the crowd by giving more. Because everyone is trying to give their best. The selfie lens is good as there is nothing to complain about it. It can record videos in 1080p resolution at 30fps.

Performance, Hardware & UI

The POCO F3 GT is claimed to be a gaming phone, but is it really? The device is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1200 SoC. While the chipset is competent and can handle most visually demanding games at high graphics and frame rate settings, the SoC falls short of Qualcomm’s offerings. Though the SoC chipset shows better performance in different benchmark tests, it can’t perform better in real-life situations.

In higher memory phones, the Dimensity 1200 5G 6nm SoC with Mali-G77 MC9 GPU runs high config games in the maximum settings quite smoothly. However, in cases of lower memories, mid graphical settings would be the best to play games without having any lags and glitches. From the processor’s angel, none can deny its claim to be a gaming phone, but it would more justifying if they used a powerful Qualcomm cheapest.

POCO F3 GT has used android 11 based MIUI 12.5 for POCO. The skin offers extensive customizability and a plethora of useful utilities.

Battery and Charging

The POCO F3 GT has come with a 5,065 mAh battery. The battery will support a whole day’s heavy use. Even with a higher refresh rate of 120 Hz, the phone runs a full day. However, with seamless gameplay, the support will degrade to about 6 to 6 hours.

Yet there is nothing to worry about, as the phone also offers a superfast 67W charging system. It takes only an hour or less (42 minutes advertised) to charge the phone fully.
