Syed Ashraf remembered on the third anniversary of his death

The Awami League on Monday paid tribute to its former general Secretary Syed Ahraful Islam through a number of programmes to mark the third anniversary of his death.

Awami League leaders and Syed Ashraf Smriti Sangsad members visited his grave at Banani graveyard in the morning and placed wreaths there.

Programmes were held at Kishoreganj, the ancestral village home and constituency of the late leader.

Paying tribute Joint General Secretary of Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, said that the role of Syed Ashraf in strengthening the party and his contributions to the democratic movement of the country will be remembered forever.

He said that the late AL leader was a very gentle, creative man in the politics of Bangladesh. He was fearless to take decisions and actions in difficult times. His role in many of the nation’s crises will be forever remembered.

He further said that the role played by Syed Ashraf during the caretaker government in 2008 when the conspiracy started in the politics of the country with the arrest of two leaders will be remembered in the history of Bangladesh.

On behalf of Syed Ashraful’s family, his sister Kishoreganj-1 constituency MP Dr. Syeda Zakia Nur also paid homage to him.

On the third death anniversary of Syed Ashraf, various organizations including Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain and Syed Ashraf Smriti Sangsad placed wreaths at his Banani grave.

Syed Ashraf, son of Syed Nazrul Islam, acting president of the provisional government of Bangladesh during the liberation war, also served as the local government and cooperatives minister.

Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Central Committee Member Marufa Akhter Poppy, Member of Parliament Rubina Meera, Awami League Leader Balaram Poddar, member of the sub-committee of Awami League Agriculture and Cooperatives Anwarul Kabir were present on the occasion.

Syed Ashraf, the son of Syed Nazrul Islam, acting president of the provisional government of Bangladesh during the liberation war, also served as the local government and cooperatives minister.
