Additional Secretary General of the organization Abdul Motaleb announced the 3 points at a press conference held at Tejgaon Truck Stand in the capital.

The first demand is full withdrawal of the Tk 15 per litre hike in the price of fuel oil (diesel and kerosene). Added to it are withdrawal of the increased toll fare for Jamuna and Muktarpur bridges, and an end to what they term ‘extortion’ by city corporations in the name of toll on goods transport.

Until these three demands are met, goods transport across the country will not resume, the association said. Replying to a question on behalf of the association, Motaleb said: “We called the strike after the hike in price of fuel oil.”

He also described the move to hike the price as ‘unreasonable’.

“The Home Minister is our guardian, so went to his house (on Saturday) for a resolution,” said Motaleb. “He listened to us, and said he will inform us of a decision after consulting with the Prime Minister.”

As of today though, Motaleb said they have not yet heard anything back from Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
