Primary school girl forced into prostitution; parents arrested

Police have arrested three people, including the parents of a primary school girl for forcing her into prostitution in Barishal.

The arrestees are Nasreen Begum, the victim’s mother, Samsul Sikder, her father, and Anwar Hossain Hawladar, a honey trader in the city.

Kotwali Police station officer-in-charge (OC) Nurul Islam said the accused were arrested during a raid in Gazi Bari Mosque area of the city corporation’s Ward-15 New Circular Road in the early hours of Sunday.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the teenager, a case was filed, said the OC. The arrested parents and trader were produced in the court today.

The court sent them to jail. The victim teenager has been kept at the victim support center.

It was learned that the teenage primary school girl was sexually assaulted 125 times in the last five months.

In the case statement the teenager mentioned that her parents traded drugs and women at home. For several months, her parents were talking about putting her prostitution.

As she refused, she was beaten and later in June her mother kept the girl in a room with Anwar, the honey trader, at his house where he sexually assaulted her.

On Saturday afternoon, the teenager managed to escape from the house and went to the office of the Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shahabuddin Khan and informed him of her ordeal.

The commissioner directed the Kotwali Model Police Station to take immediate legal action. Later, Kotwali Police raided the house and arrested the girl’s mother Nasreen Begum, father Samsul Sikder and honey trader Anwar Hossain Hawlader.
