Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has said no one is interested to compete with him as the next president of the BCB. After the 12th board meeting of BCB directors on Tuesday, Nazmul made this comment.

The next general election of BCB may take place in early October. The election commission has already finalized the list of the voters.

Nazmul took over the post of BCB president in October 2012, as he was appointed by the government to take the place of current finance minister A.H.M Mostafa Kamal, who was moving to the ICC. After that, he was elected as the BCB president unopposed in 2013 and 2017.

“I believe no one will compete with me as the BCB president before I die,” Nazmul told the media on Tuesday. “I want someone to tell me that he wants to be the BCB president. No one comes to tell that. This is not a good sign. We have to have a pipeline so that we will get new leaders.”

While talking to the media recently, Nazmul hinted that he is not willing to participate in the next election unless it is extremely necessary. He also said that his doctors advised him to stay away from cricketing activities to stay healthy.

However, sources close to Nazmul said the longest-serving BCB president is still willing to take part in the next election. As of now, no strong candidate has come forward to challenge Nazmul.

Meanwhile, the newly formed election commission to conduct the general election of the BCB has started working, and they are expecting that the election would take place in the first week of October.

The election commission is led by the former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) M Farhad Hussain.

During a recent media interaction, Farhad Hussain said they are expecting to complete all preparation for the election by the next two weeks.
