Holey Artisan Victim Faraaz’s Heroism is Now on the Silver Screen

Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain gave his life rather than leave behind his friends. A movie is being made in Bollywood portraying the heroism and sacrifice of Faraaz. On July 1, 2016, a brutal militant attack took place at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan. A total of 26 people were killed in the attack, including 17 foreigners, two police officers, and six gunmen. According to the T-Series, one of the largest production companies in India, the movie “Faraaz” will feature the story of the Holey Artisan massacre.

Dhaka’s Holey Artisan Cafe Attack at a Glance

On the night of the incident, five militants Rohan Imtiaz, Nibras Islam, Mir Samih Mobasher, Khairul Islam Payel, and Shafiqul Islam Uzzal, went to Gulshan Road No. 79 from a house in Bashundhara residential area. Five people entered the restaurant with weapons and bombs in their bags at around 9 pm. As soon as they entered, they randomly fired at foreigners sitting at various tables there. Further, the terrorists also hit them in the neck and body with a sharp weapon to ensure death.

The militants shot and killed the Italians as they entered a large room downstairs. They then shot and killed the foreigners sitting on chairs and tables inside the rest of the rooms. The militants took hostage more than 50 local and foreign men and women inside the cafe. They then search for the foreigners hiding in bakery bathrooms, toilets, ceilings, kitchens, chiller rooms and shoot them dead. Moreover, those with serious injuries were also stabbed to death with sharp knives.

At the same time, they took hostage the family of a man named Hasnat Karim sitting at the bakery table, an Indian citizen named Saat Prakash, Tahmid, and his two friends. Later, they took about 15 bakery workers hostage.

The terrorist attack in Holey Artisan killed nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, three Bangladeshi guests, and two restaurant workers. Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police Senior Assistant Commissioner (AC) Rabiul Karim and Banani Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salauddin Khan were killed by militant grenades outside the restaurant. Another person who was injured at the scene died seven days after the incident.

The next morning, the hostage phase ended with the Army’s Operation Thunderbolt. Led by the Army, the Navy, Air Force, BGB, Police, RAB conducted Operation Thunderbolt. Led by the Army’s 1st Paracommando Battalion, the operation began at 7:40 am on Saturday, the day after the incident, and took control of the scene in 12-13 minutes. Later, the end of the operation was announced around 8:30 am. Operation Thunderbolt was successful, and the operation of the 1st Para Commando Battalion of the Bangladesh Army was professional and commendable, and the joint forces took control of the Holy Artisan Restaurant. Four pistols initially used by the terrorists, a folded butt AK-22, four unexploded IIDs, a walkie-talkie set, and sharp domestic weapons were recovered from the spot.

Who was Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain

Faraaz’s name has come to the fore in the gruesome killing of innocent people in the brutal militant attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan. Because Faraaz presented a unique story of self-sacrifice. The 20-year-old stood up for the lives of his two friends Abinta Kabir and Tarishi Jain. He did not save himself; he could not save them either. But he saved courage, friendship, and humanity.

Faraj Ayaz Hossain, grandson of Late Latifur Rahman, chairman of a Transcom group in Bangladesh. “Faraaz was the younger child of Simeen Rahman and Muhammad Waquer Bin Hossain.” Although Faraaz lived in the USA, he was in Dhaka to spend his summer vacation.

Faraaz started his school at Sir John Wilson, Dhaka, at the age of three, but he studied there until class 2. Later, he shifted to the American International School and graduated in 2014. Then, he was admitted to Emory University in Atlanta in August 2014 for higher education. He was a business student at Emory’s Goizueta Business School. Faraaz was an allrounder from his childhood. He was a champion in debate, a champion in sports, and was also good in education.

Later his brave behavior and sacrifice were recognized by many organizations in different countries. Faraaz Hossain has been awarded the Mother Teresa Award in recognition of his unique friendship. Faraaz Hossain has been recognized as a graduate of Emory University’s Goizueta School of Business at 2018 convocation. At the time of his death, Faraj had two years left until the end of his graduation. The Emory University in the United States has also introduced the Faraj Hossain Core Value Award.

The Bollywood movie ‘Faraaz’ is going to be made about the militant attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery. The movie will be made under the banner of T-Series and directed by Hansal Mehta, the famous director of Web Series Scam 1992. Bhushan Kumar and Anubhav Sinha will be the producers.

The movie is important in three ways. It is also interesting. First of all, a movie is being made about one of the most horrific incidents of militancy in Bangladesh, Holey Artisan. Secondly, the film is being made in Bollywood. Thirdly, Kareena Kapoor’s cousin Jahan Kapoor is going to make his Bollywood debut as a hero through the movie. Besides, Veteran actor Paresh Rawal’s son Aditya Rawal will also debut with this movie.

A 23-second motion poster with the announcement was posted Wednesday night from the T-Series verified Facebook page. Ayushman Khurana, Kartik Aryan, Rajkumar Rao, Emran Hashmi, Pratik Gandhi, Tapsi Pannu, and Mohit Suri took part in the countdown of the poster unveiling. Although the movie will be based on the terrorist attack at the Holey Artisan Bakery, Faraaz’s heroism will get focus.
