Diplomats on Thursday paid tributes to the lives lost in the militant attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s Gulshan five years ago.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami, ambassadors of the US, Italy and Japan and other senior diplomats also joined.

“We shall never forget the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1, 2016. I joined ambassadors of Italy, USA and India to lay wreaths in memory of the victims,” said Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki.

“The seven Japanese, killed in the attack, were engaged with the preparation of Japan International Cooperation Agency’s Dhaka Metro Line 1, which starts construction work next year,” he said.

On July 1, 2016, five armed militants stormed Holey Artisan in Gulshan diplomatic zone and took diners hostage. They had killed 22 people, mostly foreigners, by the end of the night.
