Cox’s Bazar gang rape: Prime accused Ashiq put on 3-day remand

A Cox’s Bazar court on Tuesday placed two people, including prime accused Ashiqul Islam Ashiq, on a three-day remand each in a case filed over violating a tourist in the town.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Abul Mansur Siddique passed the order when police produced them before the court, said additional superintendent of Tourist Police Md Mohiuddin.

Earlier on Monday, police filed a petition seeking remand for Ashiqu in the case.

The other remanded accused is Mehedi Hasan Babu.

He was produced before the court on Tuesday with a seven-day remand prayer but the court put him on a three-day remand.

On December 27, a team of Rab arrested Ashiq, 29, from Madaripur district on his way to Patuakhali from Dhaka.

So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the rape case.

On the night of December 22 a gang led by their leader Ashiqu abducted the woman and allegedly raped her in two places of the tourist town.

A case was filed with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
