Booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will officially be administered in Bangladesh from Tuesday.

Health Secretary Lokman Hossain Miah said this Monday during an event at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

He said booster doses were given experimentally since last Sunday. But they will be officially given (booster dose) fromn Tuesday. Surokkha, the app for vaccine registration, has already been prepared.

The doctors, nurses, government officials, media persons and the elderly citizens would be brought under the booster dose on priority basis. The Pfizer vaccine will be used for the purpose, at least to start with.

Adding that there would be no shortage of vaccines, he said that they have already secured purchases and donations of 31 to 32 crore doses of vaccine, out of which 15 crore have already arrived in Bangladesh.

He also said it has been possible to bring 11 crore people under vaccination, although he probably meant that to be the number of doses that have been administered (jabs in arms).
