The Appellate Division has stayed the bail the High Court granted to Martuza Rayhan Chowdhury, an accused in the rape and murder case of a female student of a private university in the city.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order in a hearing on Thursday after Deputy Attorney General Amit Dash Gupta appealed against the bail.

According to the case on the evening of January 28 DJ Neha hosted the student of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and her two friends, Martuza and Arafat, at Bamboo Shoot restaurant in Uttara where they heavily drank. From there late in the night they went to another luxurious hotel in Gulshan where they took more alcohol.

Police arrested DJ Neha after the female student and Arafat died two days after the partying.

Police investigation divulged that Neha, separated from her husband and family, was involved in engaging the unsuspecting young men and women in immoral activities.

Later police arrested Martuza and his friend Tafsir in the case of murder and rape of the female student. Neha’s cousin Bishal surrendered before lower court.

On July 19 the High Court granted bail to Martuza in this case against which the state side submitted an appeal at the chamber judge’s court.
