Body of youth gunned down by Indian found near Sylhet border

Police recovered the body of a young man with bullet wounds from the Kalairag border in Companiganj, Sylhet on Saturday evening.

The body was identified as that of Lukesh Roy, 36, son of Bishnu Roy of village Kalairag, KM Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, told UNB.

“On information, police recovered the body of Lukesh from Kalairag border at 5pm. His body, which has bullet wounds and injury marks, will be sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy,” Nazrul added.

“Lukesh and Shailen Kanda, 26, crossed into India Friday. Although Shailen was rescued with gunshot wounds, Lukesh was missing,” the OC said.

Shailen, son of Dev Kanda of Kalairag, was injured as some Indian citizens fired shots across the border at about 11am Friday from the Indian part of Kalairag 1253/3S pillar.

He is now undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
