BNP on Sunday expelled former MP Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman for violating party discipline.

A press release signed by party assistant office secretary Belal Ahmed said Akhtaruzzaman was expelled from all posts, including primary membership, of the party for his involvement in anti-party activities that went against the party discipline.

A former president of Kishoreganj district unit of BNP, Akhtaruzzaman contested the last general election with BNP’s ticket from the Kishoreganj-2 constituency.

A party senior leader, wishing anonymity, said the action was taken against him for his some recent ‘controversial’ comments against BNP.

In a TV talk show, he said, Akhtaruzzaman described BNP as a shameless and failed party.

Earlier, the ex-BNP MP also made some comments against BNP and its acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

Akhtaruzzaman was elected MP twice in 1991 and 1996 from Kishoreganj-2 seats.
